What’s ERP?

ERP (exposure and response prevention) is an active, dynamic, and highly effective mode of treatment for OCD and anxiety disorders. ERP involves confronting fears in a gradual, step-wise manner in order to practice tolerating anxiety, distress, and intrusive thoughts without relying on compulsive behaviors or mental acts to bring relief from these internal experiences. Although they may be effective in the short-term, compulsions ultimately prolong suffering by reinforcing the OCD cycle. Please know that while I will make recommendations and provide information and encouragement, this process is collaborative and I cannot work without your continuous feedback. I will only facilitate exposures with your full, informed consent and at your pace. To experience substantial, lasting results, your engagement in consistent ERP practice outside of session is essential. If this feels impossible from where you’re standing now, I encourage you to reach out and show up for an initial session. I’m here to help you get up and running from there, one step at a time.

I’m happy to respond to any questions or concerns about ERP. The International OCD Foundation (IOCDF) is a great resource as well: learn more here.
